The pandas of Sichuan and the Han Chinese Clothing culture of Chengdu are known nationwide. On June 10 2021, the first Panda-themedHan Chinese Clothing Outing Day,jointlyorganizedby the School of Overseas Education of Sichuan University and Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding, was held at the Giant Panda Base. Zhang Yi,afaculty member of the School of Overseas Education, organizedfour international studentsofSCUto participate in the event.

The eventwas kicked-offat 14:00on the Plaza ofthe Panda Base Exploration Hall. International students from Morocco, Yemen and Guinea put on traditional Chinese costumes with the help of the staff, and joinedthe Chinese costume enthusiasts toattendthe "Chinese Costume Tour" in the bamboo forest of Chengdu Panda Base.

Later, at the invitation of Chengdu PLUS--the new media channel of Chengdu TV, thesefour international students and the Han Chinese Clothing expert Ting Yue Zhang Gui (听月掌柜)watchedthe cute giant pandas and learnedabout the patterns and history of Han Chinese clothing. Then, theycame tothe International Panda Art Center, where they enjoyedthepanda-themedexhibition of "Brilliant Pandas" created by a number of international artists, andappreciatedthe creations of pandas in conjunction with contemporary arts.

The visit to the Panda Base has left a deep impression on foreign students and markeda new attempt to explore the combination of national education for foreign students withtheurban culture of Chengdu and traditional Chinese culture education. Mo Wanqi, an international student, saidthatitwasher first time to wear the Han Chineseclothing and she feltvery beautiful.Thiseventarousedher interest in learning more knowledge related to Han Chineseclothing, she added. The students all expressedtheir desire to serve as volunteers at the Panda Base and come into close contact with the giant pandas. In the next step, the School of Overseas Education of SCUwill also establish a long-term cooperation mechanism with the Panda Base to layafoundation for building a practicebase for international students.
