The Faculty Staff and Students to Probe into the Chinese Minority Arts in Wenchuan County

FromMay 7 to May 9, Ke Fei,thefaculty member of the School of Overseas Education,ledfive international students to Wenchuan County for a program titled “Exploration and Practice of Online Cultural Experience Program for International StudentsofSichuan University -Based on the Courseof ‘Chinese Minority Arts’”. Sichuan Province is a multi-ethnic region,whereinWenchuan, the proposed site of the Program, is one of the four largest countiesinhabited bythe Qiang ethnic group, and alsoa national Qiang-cultureecological experience areaendowed withrich tourism resources andgreatcultural heritage. In the context of media integration, Wenchuan boasts a top-ranked comprehensive communication power as well as the reputation and influence of a well-known tourism brand.

Focusing closely on the current trend of "online internationalcommunicationfor students",and relyingon the local characteristics of Sichuan ethnic minorities andtheir representative cultural and artistic characteristics, Ke Fei's programaims to encourage theinternational studentsofSichuan University to experience cross-cultural communication throughfieldvisit, interview,presentationand exploration, witha purposeto enrich thedatabase of educationalresourcesand promoting the international dissemination of minority cultures through video lessons. Furthermore, the international students also filmeda promotional video of Wenchuan sweet cherries in both their native languages and Chinese, contributing tothe promotion ofspecialagricultural products and tourism development in Wenchuan.

With the continuous evolution of the great global changes, General Secretary Xi Jinping has repeatedly proposed to "narrate the Chinese story, communicate the Chinese voice, and introduce the real,vividand comprehensive China to the world".InternationalChinese language educationassumes the responsibilityandplaysan important role in Chinese storiestelling. TheProgram serves as a platform for the School of Overseas Education to promote Chinese culture through cooperation between theSchool and the local communities,withhigh-quality education resources ininternationalChinese language education,andthroughexploration of ethnic minority arts. This can bea useful attempt togain a further insight intointernational Chinese language education,as well as anotherinitiative ofourSchool to contribute to local social and economic development.
