The School of Overseas Education Seeks for a New Mode of Convergent Education

— Chinese and International Students Team Up to Visit the Sanxingdui Ruins Site

To further explore the new mode of convergent education forboth theChinese and international students, promote the transformation of the international educationformon national conditions and improve the quality& efficiency of international students,on May 21 2021, the School of Overseas Education, together with the International Student Management Office and the School of Literature and Journalism of SCU,organized over 40 Chinese and foreign students to visit the Sanxingdui RuinsSitein Guanghan, Sichuan.

Participants in thisactivity include studentsfrom nearly 20 countries, including China, France, Russia, Colombia, Serbia, South Korea and Morocco, allof whom havedifferent living habits and diverse cultural backgrounds. To deepen mutual understandings and improve the effectiveness of cultural experience activities,thesestudentswere divided into two groups and complete the "Dragon Dance Competition" with traditional Chinese elementsahead of the activity.

Later, the students visited the Sanxingdui Museum. Among simple pottery objects, exquisite jade objects and magnificent bronze objects, the students wandered through the vastspace of theuniverse and the long river of history, attentively perceived the origin, development and migration process of ancient Sichuan civilization, andheld inter-temporal dialogues with cultural relics such as the sacred tree of the sun, the bronze standing man, the long-eyed mask and the civilization therein.

It should be noted that, with the assistance of the School of History and Tourism of SCU and the Sichuan Archaeological Research Institute, the studentscould gain access to the archaeological site of Sanxingdui,witnessthe excavation pits in progress andcommunicate in depth with the teachers and studentsfrom the Department of Archaeology of SCU. There, students felt like theywerestandingat thepointof time-space convergence appreciating theinteraction of modern technology and ancient civilization.

The trip to the Sanxingdui Ruins Sitehas left a deep impression on boththeChinese and international students. Bashir, a student from Sudan, said, "after visiting the Sanxingdui Museum, I have a deeper understanding of the splendid ancient Chinese civilization. Communication brightens the culture", Wang Yulu, a Chinese student,noted,"the sacred SanxingduiRuinsSiteleft us not only elusive myths about the glorious civilization, but alsothe pride and joy."

Beingoneof a series of activities following thecampaign"Gathering theSparks and Recalling the Memories of a Century - Story-telling Session of‘Forever Young’", this event wasjointly initiated by the School of Overseas Education, the International Students Office of theInternational Office and the School of Literature and Journalism,asanother attempt to explorea new mode of convergent education fortheChinese and foreign students. It aims to organically combinethenational education for international students withthepatriotic education for Chinese students,enhancingthe education effects in a newway.
